My memories of this place abound...and today I got a triple cheeseburger with lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle and dash of ketchup. Shoe string fries.
This place is tough to beat. It's a TRUE, CLASSIC, DINER-STYLE, GRIDDLE-COOKED, SMASH-METHOD burger joint. The patties are made from T-bone and sirloin (true steak burgers), and juicy and flavorful.
Eat your heart out, Freddy's. You are just a sad copy of the real McCoy.
Steak 'n Shake is the REAL deal. If you are from the Midwest, you'll know what I mean.
When I was a little kid my aunt would come home to St. Louis from KU for Christmas. Even at nearly 55 years old I still remember her scooping me up and taking me ... just me ... to Steak & Shake. What a great memory. What a great, never-changing truly American diner hamburger!
ReplyDeleteMy son works there,before they open the doors to the public they invited the worker's family for a meal. I'm not a hamburger fun, but this is the best hamburger I ever had. Every time I go to eat there I eat a different choice, I had never been disappointed.
